Privacy policy
In short
Everything you write or clip in Clip Notes stays in your browser, on your device. Clip Notes has no account and no server, makes no network requests, and collects, sells or shares nothing. It uses no analytics or tracking.
What Clip Notes stores, and where
Clip Notes stores the notes you make: each note's title, text and tags, when it was created and last edited, whether it's pinned, and its place in your list. For a note you clip from a web page, it also keeps that page's address so you can go back to it. All of this is kept in your browser's own extension storage on this device. Clip Notes doesn't sync it anywhere, and nobody else can see it.
Reading web pages only when you ask
When you select text on a page, right-click and choose "Save to Notes", Clip Notes saves the text you selected as a new note, titled with that page's title and linked to its address. That is the only time it sees anything from a page. It can't read the pages you visit, and it never sees your browsing history.
No network
Clip Notes never sends anything over the network: it has no server to send to. Opening a clipped note's link opens that page in a tab, like any link.
Exports and imports
If you export your notes, the file is saved where your browser saves downloads, and what happens to it after that is up to you. Importing reads only the file you pick or the text you paste. Copying a note puts its text on your clipboard, only when you click it.
Permissions
- Side panel: Clip Notes opens in Chrome's side panel, beside the page.
- Storage: your notes are kept on your device.
- Context menus: the "Save to Notes" item that appears when you right-click selected text.
Deleting your data
You can delete any note in Clip Notes, or every note at once with the Delete all button. Removing the extension from Chrome deletes all your notes too.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published here with a new date. Since your notes never leave your device, a change can't affect what you've already stored.
